As we pointed out at the program kickoff in November 2018, the New Orleans Health Innovators Challenge is an annual competition for healthcare startups that was designed to drive healthcare innovation and investment in New Orleans. It is hosted by the New Orleans Business Alliance and presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana and Ochsner Health System.
After a months-long process of recruiting companies from across the country, reviewing applications, and much deliberation, the program will culminate on Wednesday, March 27 with the Pitch Finale event. The two finalists of the main competition—the Social Determinants Data Challenge—will pitch their companies to the judges and the audience.
The New Orleans Health Innovators Challenge Pitch Finale, which takes place during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, helps to shine the spotlight on the biotech ecosystem in New Orleans. In addition to the pitch part of the event, New Orleans-based biotech companies will be on hand to showcase their innovations.

The Health Innovators Challenge consists of three competitions in addition to the Social Determinants Data Challenge: the Access To Care Challenge, the Real Time Results Challenge, and the Affordable Choices Challenge. The winners of these challenges will be announced at the Finale. Zapata added, “There will be a lot of local and national brainpower in the room, and Omega is excited to be part of it.”
The doors open at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 25 at the Louisiana Cancer Center at 1700 Tulane Ave in New Orleans. The first hour will consist of networking and the local showcase. The program will take place from 3:00 – 4:25 pm. Omega looks forward to participating in the Finale and to meeting leaders in the biotech industry.
